Leucadia Cyclery was approved for the California e-bike incentive program which will provide voucher incentives to low-income California residents to purchase e-bikes, including cargo e-bikes and adaptive e-bikes.

According to the State of California, “the project uses a needs-based approach by prioritizing low-income Californians and those who live in disadvantaged and low-income communities.”

The project will also commit a portion of its funding to e-bike safety and educational training, which will be two mandatory parts of the process of obtaining an e-bike.

Who Is Eligible for the CA E-Bike Incentive?

California residents (must show a valid state ID) age 18 or older who have an annual household income at or below 300% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Priority applicants are residents who will receive additional funding if they live in a low-income or disadvantaged community or have an annual household income at or below 225% of FPL.

Applicants will also need to complete an application as well as education and safety training before receiving a voucher. This process could take up to 3 months.

One incentive is available for each individual.

Which E-Bikes Are Eligible for the CA E-Bike Incentive?

New Class 1, 2 and 3 electric bikes with an electric motor of less than or equal to 750 watts, operable pedals and integrated front and rear lights.

Eligible e-bikes must have a minimum 1-year manufacturer warranty and be fully assembled.

E-bikes may only be purchased at approved brick and mortar stores and online retailers.

What Can Be Purchased with an Incentive Voucher?

The following can be purchased with a CA e-bike incentive voucher:

  • Eligible e-bike
  • Accessories: helmet, lock, reflective clothing, racks, and fenders
  • Sales tax

Note: These additional eligible items will only be covered by the incentive voucher funds when purchased at the same time as an eligible e-bike from an approved retailer.

Eligible applicants can receive up to $2,000 in incentives.

How the CA E-Bike Incentive Is Administered

The project is administered by Pedal Ahead and incentives are distributed to residents as vouchers. According to Pedal Ahead, “Once approved, the voucher recipients will be able to redeem the vouchers at authorized e-bike retailers. Authorized retailers will apply the voucher discount to an approved e-bike at the point of sale. “
