At Leucadia Cyclery, the safety of our clients, staff, and neighbors is our absolute priority. As the cycling industry evolves and e-bike adoption grows—particularly here in Encinitas, CA—we remain committed to providing professional, trusted service for our community.

To maintain our standards of safety and quality, we have established the following policy on servicing electric bikes, motorcycles (e-motos) and modified e-bikes.

E-Motorcycles and High-Power Electric Vehicles

Leucadia Cyclery specializes in quality bicycles and professional bicycle repair. Our facility, service bays and technical expertise are tailored for standard bicycle components and Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes. Consequently:

  • Electric Motorcycles: We do not provide service or repairs for electric motorcycles/e-motos (e.g., Sur-Ron, Talaria, E-Ride Pro or similar high-power platforms) unless expressly authorized by a general manager or the owner.

  •  Custom E-bikes: We will not provide service or repairs for any custom or kit e-bikes or vehicles or bikes as they fall outside our service scope.

Modified and "Modded" E-Bikes

We take pride in our "quietly great" mechanics and extremely talented technicians who are ready to support safe cycling. However, e-bike modifications can compromise the structural integrity and electrical safety of a vehicle. Our policy is as follows:

  • Aftermarket Power Modifications: We will not service e-bikes that have been modified with aftermarket motor controllers, batteries, or "speed chips" designed to bypass factory safety components and systems.

  • Safety Deferral: While we handle certain warranty claims for authorized brands (e.g., E Ride Pro, Bianchi), we must defer to manufacturer guidelines regarding "hard riding" or aftermarket alterations that may void warranties or indicate unsafe operation.

Unsafe Vehicles and Right of Refusal

Safety is the foundation of our business. We reserve the right to refuse service on any vehicle or to any individual we deem unsafe for any reason, including but not limited to:

  • Structural damage / frame cracks that exceeds safe repair limits.

  • Non-compliant electrical systems that pose a fire or operational risk.

  • Incompatible or poorly installed 3rd party products not purchased through or approved by Leucadia Cyclery.

Service Authorization and Liability

For all approved service work, customers must authorize repairs according to our standard work order terms:

  • Testing Permission: Authorization grants Leucadia Cyclery employees permission to operate the vehicle on streets for testing and inspection purposes.

  • Third-Party Products: Leucadia Cyclery does not guarantee the performance of any 3rd party products not purchased at our shop.

Our goal is to keep Encinitas, CA a connected and bike-friendly city while ensuring every rider stays safe. We appreciate your understanding in helping us maintain these safety standards.
